HCM City (VNA) – The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) signed an agreement on information and communication technology (ICT) framework consultancy cooperation to build the city into a smart one in 2017-2025 and with a vision towards 2030.

The VNPT will work with its strategic partners to study the development of a smart city and propose concrete measures to address arising problems as well as support the city whenever it needs and guarantee ICT infrastructure.

The group is also responsible for arranging human resources to carry out the project while providing telecom and information technology products and services for the municipal People’s Committee.

Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong said building a smart city will help improve the quality of the investment and business environment, local income and urban management.

The city will create the best conditions for the VNPT, businesses, organisations and individuals to complete the work.

Minister of Information and Communication Truong Minh Tuan said the project is the first of its kind in Vietnam, adding that HCM City needs quick and suitable urban planning and management.

The development of HCM City into a smart city is urgent to turn it into a financial, scientific and technological hub nationally and regionally, he said.
