HCM City checks food safety for Mid-Autumn Festival

The Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Management Board has begun food inspections of moon cakes, jam, candy and other items made for the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on October 4 this year.

HCM City (VNA) - The Ho Chi Minh City Food SafetyManagement Board has begun food inspections of moon cakes, jam, candy and otheritems made for the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on October 4 thisyear.

The inspections, required by the HCM City Inter-sector SteeringCommittee on Food Safety, will last until September 30.

Inspectors are looking for fake, out-of-date and substandardproducts, food additives and materials at large food manufacturing, processing,trading and importing establishments.

Wholesale markets, supermarkets, and large food-and-beverageservice establishments will also be checked.

Government agencies in the city’s districts will check forviolations on advertising, product labels, origin, and processing at small- andmedium-size food establishments, as well as at manufacturers and tradingenterprises.

Violators will be fined, according to Pham Khanh Phong Lan, headof the city’s Food Safety Management Board.

Lan said that substandard products and those without clear originwould not be allowed in the market, and food and beverage serviceestablishments found in violation would have to stop operations.-VNA
