HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Experts shared their experiences anddiscussed solutions to strengthen information and cyber security at aconference in Ho Chi Minh City on November 28.
At the 2018 Vietnam Cyber Security, hundreds of Vietnamese and foreign cybersecurity experts and academics and representatives of companies discussedchallenges to information safety and ensuring security in the finance-bankingsector.
They simulated targeted attacks on businesses’ and Government organisations’ ITsystems.
Experts from other countries and foreign companies shared their experience incyber security.
John Yong, former director of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore,highlighted his country’s experience in implementing its cyber securitystrategy to strengthen the resilience of its national critical informationinfrastructure, including the banking sector.
He spoke about the legal framework, research and development, manpowerdevelopment, eco-systems and international partnerships.
Singapore established a professional cyber-security workforce by encouragingprofessionals to remain as well as attracting new graduates and convertingother professionals, he said.
To strengthen cyber security, he suggested forging global and regionalco-operation to counter cyber threats and crime and called for internationaland ASEAN cyber capacity-building initiatives.
Do Sinh Truong, technical expert for enterprise customers at HP Vietnam, saidmany businesses invest large amounts of money to secure their system but leavetheir printers vulnerable, making it a “gateway” for hackers.
Failure to properly evaluate the importance of print security undermines theability to detect and respond promptly to attacks on an organisation’sinformation systems, he said.
Other experts spoke about solutions for meeting the security requirements whenpromoting financial and banking activities on digital technology platforms andlaunching ATM systems.
The annual conference was held at a time when cyber attacks are increasing inthe country.
It was organised by the Cyber Security and Counter High-tech Crime Department, VietnamComputer Emergency Response Team, Civil Cryptography Management andCryptography Product and IDG Vietnam. – VNS/VNA
