HCM City (VNA) - The Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee has decided to invest in an electronic toll collection system (ETC) at three toll booths in the city.
The three toll booths, which will be funded by the BOT (build-operate-transfer) mode, will be installed at Phu My, Hanoi expressway and An Suong – An Lac locations.
The ETCs use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology under ISO/IEC standards. The wireless system includes e-tags and readers.
The system can process fee collections at a vehicle’s maximum speed of 40km/h. It will later be upgraded to 120km/h.
To pay tolls via ETCs, vehicle owners will be issued an e-tag attached to the inside of the front windscreen of a vehicle and will receive an account for fee collection.
ETCs can save a lot of time and fuel for drivers, curb congestion and reduce pollution as drivers will no longer have to stop their vehicles and pay fees manually as was done currently, according to the HCM City’s People’s Committee.
BOT owners have invested a total of 158 billion VND (7 million USD) for the three projects.-VNA
