Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee has recently launched a programme to preserve the city's civilian and artistic architectural items, according to Tuoi Tre newspaper.

The programme dictates that the list of all of the city’s artistic, iconic individual and collective architectural items which were and will be ranked according to the Cultural Heritage Law is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The list will be managed by the Geographic Information System (GIS), which integrates hardware, software, and data to capture, manage, analyse, and display all forms of geographically referenced information.

The programme also calls for the establishment of an agency which specialises in safeguarding the city’s architectural items and landscapes.

Earlier, the committee issued a list of 108 architectural works in HCMC to be conserved which are categorized by types and areas.-VNA
