A ceremony marking the 53rd anniversary of Cuba’s Giron victory took place in Ho Chi Minh City on April 18.
In April 1961, the US troops made an attempt to invade Playa Giron, but they suffered a defeat and were thrown away from the island. This victory later led to Cuba’s reunification.
Speaking at the event, Chairwoman of the municipal chapter of the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association (VCFA) Hoang Thi Khanh recalled the days when both nations together went through their struggles for national liberation.
People-to-people diplomacy via friendship exchanges has played a productive part in fostering bilateral solidarity, she commented.
The ceremony was co-hosted by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and the VCFA chapter.-VNA
