HCM City specifies key agricultural products

The administration of Ho Chi Minh City has issued a list of key agricultural products to develop to improve the income and living standards of rural residents.

HCM City (VNA) – The administration of Ho ChiMinh City has issued a list of key agricultural products to develop to improvethe income and living standards of rural residents.

These products are vegetables, flowers andornamental plants, dairy cows, pigs and brackish water shrimp. Meanwhile,ornamental fish were named in the group of potential products.

Director of the municipal Department ofAgriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Phuoc Trung said these products notonly account for big proportions in local agriculture but also generate highprofit for farmers. With considerable potential, their productivity and qualitycan be improved using high technology and new varieties.

In 2017, the production value of these key andpotential products reached 11.85 trillion VND (509.4 million USD), making up60.9 percent of HCM City’s total agricultural production value.

Trung noted they have been included in localagricultural development programmes, including ones on developing high-qualityplant varieties and animal breeds, safe vegetables, ornamental plants and dairycows.

He added that his department will continuebuilding plans and suggesting policies, especially on supporting capital,transferring high technology, creating new varieties and training labourers, todevelop these key products.-VNA
