HCM City (VNA) –The 26th Ho Chi Minh City International Track and Field Vietnam Open2019 will take place at Thong Nhat Stadium from July 17-19, the organisingboard said at a press conference on July 13.
The tournament, held by themunicipal Department of Culture and Sports in collaboration with the HCM City AthleticsFederation, will attract 550 athletes from 33 cities and provinces nationwide,and nine countries in the region, who are competing in 34 categories, including15 men’s events, 14 women’s events, and five relay races.
According to Secretary Generalof the HCM City Athletics Federation Nguyen Trung Hinh, an electronic systemwill be deployed to supervise performance of the competitors, while theInternational Association of Athletics Federations’ new rules will be appliedin this tourney.
The track and field eventoffers opportunities for domestic athletes to improve capacity and performancein preparation for the national game scheduled in September, he said, addingthat it is also a good chance for both regional coaches and athletes to be wellprepared for the 30th SEA Games slated in the Philippines inNovember.
The HCMCInternational Track and Field Vietnam Open 2019 was first held in 1993. Itwas recognised as an official tournament in Asia by the Asian AthleticsAssociation in 2010.-VNA
