Seven foreign and 36 Vietnamese teams will compete for 43 sets of medals at 20th International Athletics Tournament – Vietnam Open 2013, scheduled for July 20-21 in Ho Chi Minh City’s Thong Nhat Stadium.
The tournament will see 132 foreign athletes from the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Singapore vie with 502 Vietnamese competitors.
According to Nguyen Ba Hung, Deputy Director of the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the tournament will offer a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese athletes to sharpen their skills in preparation for the 27th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) to be held in Myanmar at the end of the year.
The annual event will be co-organised by the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Ho Chi Minh City Athletics Federation.-VNA
