HCM City to host two int’l taekwondo tournaments

The 18 th Vietnamese Open Taekwondo Championships 2010 will take place at the Phan Dinh Phung Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City from July 21-23.
The 18 th Vietnamese Open Taekwondo Championships 2010 will take place at the Phan Dinh Phung Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City from July 21-23.

The tournament is expected to attract more than 200 martial artists, including 76 women, from the Republic of Korea , Thailand , Malaysia , Singapore , Taiwan , France , Monaco and Vietnam , who will compete in 16 fighting events (including eight for women) and 20 events for young fighters.

The host country will send 78 martial artists, divided into three teams – the national squad, the Ho Chi Minh City team and a team of players from central provinces .

The tournament will provide an excellent chance for Vietnam to prepare for the forthcoming 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou , China .

After the Vietnam Open, HCM City will also host the 2nd Asian International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) Championships from July 23-25, expected to draw 80 martial artists from Japan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, India, Indonesia, China, Afghanistan, Nepal and Vietnam.

The artists will compete in 12 performance and 10 fighting events.

To prepare for the tournament, the Vietnamese team is currently being trained by Mariusz Steckiewicz, an ITF expert from Poland./.
