HCM City, Vientiane agree to foster cooperation

Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City and the Lao capital city of Vientiane have agreed to foster and expand their cooperation in the time ahead and approve cooperation orientations for the 2017-2020 period.

Vientiane (VNA) – Vietnam’s HoChi Minh City and the Lao capital city of Vientiane have agreed to foster andexpand their cooperation in the time ahead and approve cooperation orientationsfor the 2017-2020 period.

The agreement was reached at the talksin Vientiane on July 29 between a high-ranking delegation of Vientiane and ahigh-ranking delegation of Ho Chi Minh City led by permanent Vice Secretary ofthe municipal Party Committee Tat Thanh Cang.

The two sides agreed to increase theexchange of high-level delegations, speeding up the implementation of a projectto raise beeves in Vientiane, considering the provision of aid to buy equipmentfor a project on improving the budget collection system of Vientiane’s FinanceDepartment and Tax Department.

They also vowed to consider thepossibility of constructing their trade and tourism centres in Ho Chi Minh Cityand Vientiane.

Ho Chi Minh City pledged to helpVientiane organise agricultural, trade and tourism promotion programmes in the Vietnamesecity, provide 17 scholarships for Lao students and postgraduates, and assist Vientianein hosting the Laos Tourism Year 2018 and a tourism conference of Mekong RiverSub-region cities.

Earlier on the same day, the Ho Chi MinhCity delegation was received by permanent member of the Lao People’sRevolutionary Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Phankham Viphavan andSecretary of the Party Committee and Mayor of Vientiane Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune.

At these meetings, the Lao leaders spokehighly of cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane. They also askedthe two cities to create favourable conditions fort their businesses in orderto deepen Laos-Vietnam relations.-VNA

Expressing his pleasure at the positive development of the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, the PM highlighted defence and security cooperation as an important pillar of the bilateral ties. He praised the two defence ministries and armies for implementing high-level agreements, strengthening mutual trust and helping maintain a peaceful and stable environment conducive to socio-economic development.

Vietnam, Cambodia sign defence cooperation plan for 2027

Giang called on agencies and units of the two defence ministries to implement agreed cooperation programmes, focusing on political and ideological education to strengthen political trust, and cooperation between military services and arms. The two sides should step up coordination in border management and protection to build a Vietnam-Cambodia border of peace, cooperation and development.

Deputy PM visits China’s Tsinghua University, seeking closer educational cooperation

Tsinghua has worked to implement the Vietnamese and Chinese leaders’ orientations for higher education cooperation. Last year, it admitted 27 Vietnamese students and postgraduates, the highest number to date, all of whom received scholarships.
