HCM City (VNA) – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Phan Van Mai has told the Vice President of Worldwide AI Initiative at NVIDIA, Keith Strier that the city wants to become a major and good partner and customer of the firm in Vietnam. Receiving Strier and the NVIDIA delegation on April 26, Mai said that the city aims to not only apply AI technologies but also become an AI development centre.
He said that the city has assigned local departments and sectors to work on applying AI, initially in administrative management, health care, education, urban development and other areas.
The city leader said he believes that the two sides have many cooperation opportunities, underlining that HCM City has sufficient human resources, institutions and other conditions for cooperation in AI development. He pledged to work with the firm in AI development to become an AI centre of the region.
Mai suggested that the two sides should form a joint working group to sketch out a vision, orientations and priorities in AI development and application.
He said the two sides can immediately start coordination in human resources training to serve AI development, adding that the city has abundant IT human resources thanks to a system of more than 100 universities.
For his part, Strier hailed HCM City’s preparations for AI development, affirming that NVIDIA is willing to join the city to promote the technology. He noted that as AI is a complex technology chain, so the city needs to continue modernising its information technology infrastructure, improving local labourers’ skills and capacity of local businesses so as to keep up with the development of AI.
The executive said that the firm wishes to cooperate with HCM City, adding that NVIDIA's shareholders are interested in the Vietnamese market but they do not place much emphasis on business but on development cooperation.
NVIDIA will support the development of local businesses and hopes that HCM City will become one of the top five cities in AI, said Strier, adding that the company has the capability to train human resources in this industry and will organise free courses to help people understand more about AI./.
