HCM City (VNA) – Chairman of the People’sCommittee of Ho Chi Minh City Phan Van Mai has told the Vice President ofWorldwide AI Initiative at NVIDIA, Keith Strier that the city wants to become a major and good partner and customer of the firm in Vietnam.

Receiving Strier and the NVIDIA delegation on April 26, Maisaid that the city aims to not only apply AI technologies but also become an AIdevelopment centre.

He said that the city has assigned local departments andsectors to work on applying AI, initially in administrative management, healthcare, education, urban development and other areas.

The city leader said he believes that the two sides havemany cooperation opportunities, underlining that HCM City has sufficient humanresources, institutions and other conditions for cooperation in AI development. He pledged to work with the firm in AI development tobecome an AI centre of the region.

Mai suggested that the two sides should form a joint working groupto sketch out a vision, orientations and priorities in AIdevelopment and application.

He said the two sides can immediately start coordination in humanresources training to serve AI development, adding thatthe city has abundant IT human resources thanks to a system of more than 100universities.

For his part, Strier hailed HCM City’s preparations for AIdevelopment, affirming that NVIDIA is willing to join the city to promote the technology. He noted that as AI is a complex technology chain, so the city needs to continue modernisingits information technology infrastructure, improving local labourers’ skillsand capacity of local businesses so as to keep up with thedevelopment of AI.

The executive said that the firm wishes tocooperate with HCM City, adding that NVIDIA's shareholders are interested inthe Vietnamese market but they do not place much emphasis on business but ondevelopment cooperation.

NVIDIA will support the development of local businesses andhopes that HCM City will become one of the top five cities in AI, said Strier, adding that the company has the capability to train human resources in thisindustry and will organise free courses to help people understand more aboutAI./.
