Bangkok (VNA) - Southern Thailand continues to endure heavy rainfall, with the country’s Meteorological Department warning that downpours will persist across eight provinces until December 1, exacerbating already critical flood conditions after a week of relentless rain.
Provinces at high risk of severe flooding include Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Authorities have advised small vessels to remain docked due to high waves and rough seas. Residents near mountainous areas have been cautioned about potential flash floods and landslides.
Yala province is among the worst affected, especially Muang district which recorded the highest rainfall in the province on November 27. Officials have described this as Yala’s most severe flooding in three decades.
On November 28, Yala authorities urged residents living along the Pattani River in Muang district to relocate to higher ground. Meanwhile, Narathiwat province has experienced heavy rainfall across all districts, and Yarang district in neighboring Pattani has been declared a “disaster zone” following multiple rainstorms.
The deparment attributes the heavy rainfall in southeastern Thailand to strong northeastern monsoon winds and a low-pressure system.
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced route adjustments for trains passing through affected areas and advised passengers to monitor updates closely./.
