The house owned by the Huynh Thuy family near the Tien River in Sa Dectown in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap has become a populardestination for local and foreign tourists since it opened to the publicin 2007.
The house is famous for its unique architecture which is aharmonious combination of Vietnamese, French and Chinese styles. It isthe place that witnessed the love affair between Marguerite Duras, awell-known French writer who wrote the famous novel L'Amant, and HuynhThuy Le, the son of the Huynh Family.
The house was built usingprecious wood in 1895. In 1917, Huynh Cam Thuan, father of Huynh ThuyLe, rebuilt the house in the style of a French villa, using bothOriental and Western architectural elements.
For more than 100 years, despite the destruction caused by time, the house remains intact with all its beautiful features.
Thenovel L'Amant has been translated into 43 languages and was made into afilm of the same name by French director Jean Jacques Annaud in 1992.
Thefamous novel and film has helped attract many tourists from France, theUS, Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the UK to the historichouse in Dong Thap, which was named a national cultural-historicheritage site in 2009.-VNA
