Ho Chi Minh City: 80,000 students join voluntary work during summer

More than 80,000 students are taking part in an annual voluntary campaign that kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on July 19.
More than 80,000 students are taking part in an annual voluntary campaign that kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on July 19.

They have been divided into 9 groups to launch a large number ofsocial and humanitarian activities across the southern city, 12neighbouring provinces, Phu Quy island district in central Binh Thuanprovince, and some Lao provinces.

Running throughAugust 16, the programme includes communications campaigns onenvironmental protection, traffic safety and building a civilisedsociety and technical transfer to farmers.

Thestudents will deliver scholarships and gifts to disadvantaged students,provide free health care services to the needy and build transport worksin rural areas.

The campaign sets the goal of paving40 kilometres of rural road with cement, upgrading and building tenrural bridges, dredging eight canals and fixing electricity problems for1,000 poor households, among others.

According toPham Hong Son, deputy secretary of the municipal committee of the Ho ChiMinh Communist Youth Union, this year, the summer campaign will beclosely coordinated with other ongoing social projects to expand thepositive impacts.-VNA

Excavation for war remains begins in Quang Ngai

Y Ngoc, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee and head of the provincial Steering Committee for the search, recovery and identification of martyrs’ remains, said the mission aims to conduct definitive excavation and verification to bring home the remains of martyrs from Regiment 24A, the B3 Front, Special Forces Battalion 406, and Infantry Battalion 304, who fell during the 1968 Tet Offensive.
