Ho Chi Minh City saves 840 mln kWh of electricity

Thanks to energy saving efforts, Ho Chi Minh City has successful spared 480 million kWh of electricity so far this year, up 10 percent over the same period last year.
Thanks to energy saving efforts, Ho Chi Minh City has successfulspared 480 million kWh of electricity so far this year, up 10 percentover the same period last year.

The city has also reduced the power loss rate to 5.4 percent, down 0.16 percent year on year.

The results have proved the efficiency of many power saving programmesin the city, including a family electricity saving campaign in2013-2015 and a safe and economical power use project with theparticipation of 24,000 students.

In addition, aprogramme to launch 25 model power saving streets has also helped savemore than 334,500 kWh of electricity.

According tothe municipal People’s Committee, in 2014 the city will continueimplementing the modernisation of its electricity transmission networkand the building of a smart power network to ensure safe and effectivepower use.

In addition, the city will also strive tofurther reduce the power loss rate to 5.3 percent, while strengtheningresearch for renewable energy sources to ensure sustainable growth.

Ho Chi Minh City is among localities that consume a high amountof power, accounting for 15 percent of the country’s total power use. In2013, the city used 18.8 billion kWh of power, a rise of 6.1 percentover last year’s amount.-VNA

Vietnam joins int'l bidding for oil and gas exploration in Algeria

Currently, PVEP is involved in oil exploitation at Blocks 433a and 416b of the Bir Seba field in the Hassi Messaoud area, Ouargla province, located more than 600 km south of Algiers. Finance ministry eyes flexible tax thresholds

In a draft law amending several articles of the laws on personal income tax, corporate income tax and value-added tax, Vietnam's finance ministry proposed scrapping the fixed revenue threshold of 500 million VND. Instead, it suggested the threshold be set by the Government based on prevailing economic conditions.

Vung Ang II thermal power plant inaugurated in Ha Tinh

With a total investment of 2.2 billion USD, the Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant is developed under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model and has a designed capacity of 1,200 MW, comprising two turbines. Vietnam seeks stable jet fuel supplies from China amid Middle East disruptions

On the basis of the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and China, as well as close ties between their aviation authorities, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has asked the Civil Aviation Administration of China to direct relevant fuel suppliers to ensure sufficient and stable supplies for Vietnam.

Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City decline in Q1 amid global headwinds
