Hung Yen’s lotus products granted trademark certificate

The National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam under the Ministry of Science and Technology on September 8 announced and granted a trademark certificate for lotus products of the northern province of Hung Yen.

Hung Yen (VNA) – The National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam under the Ministry of Science and Technology on September 8 announced and granted a trademark certificate for lotus products of the northern province of Hung Yen.

Director of the provincial Department of Science and Technology Tran Tung Chuan said that lotus products are the 30th local product that has received intellectual property protection, including one geographical indication for the product "Hung Yen longan", 11 trademark certificates, and 17 collective trademark certificates. 

The province currently has nearly 100 ha of lotus. In 2022, the provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Science and Technology to coordinate with the consulting unit to apply, manage, and develop trademark registration for local lotus products. On August 23, 2023, the National Office of Intellectual Property issued a decision to grant the trademark registration certificate "Hung Yen lotus" including seven products - lotus tea, lotus seed core tea, fresh lotus seeds, dried lotus seeds, instant dried lotus seeds, lotus roots, and lotus bulbs.

To get the trademark registration certificate, functional agencies surveyed the production, processing, and trading of lotus products, built brand logo templates, identified products and services registered for the Hung Yen lotus certification trademark, and collected samples to analyse the content of some substances in lotus products./.
