
Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia's central bank (BI) hasannounced a plan to use digital rupiah amid boom in digitaltransactions in the country.
Speaking ata recent press conference, BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said BI will be the only Stateagency authorized to issue digital rupiah, following many central banks around the world that aredeveloping so-called central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).
The currencywill use a technology platform that is compatible with other centralbanks' digital currencies.
Indonesiacurrently bans the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment, but allowstransactions of the digital assets in the commodity futures market forinvestment purposes./.
