Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia is one of the main destinations for Chinese companies to invest, with about 1,000 Chinese firms operating in the Southeast Asian country, 50 percent of which are investing in Java, said President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia Gong Bencai.

Gong Bencai noted that Chinese companies in Indonesia have been increasing the number of local workers, transferring technology and expertise, investing in value-added industries, and enhancing cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Chinese companies will also try to meet the domestic needs of Indonesia, such as in the fields of infrastructures, electricity generation, as well as water and food supply, he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun stated that although relations between Indonesia and China are enhancing rapidly, there is still large room for improvement.

Earlier, Maritime Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan had invited investors from China to increase their investment in Indonesia.

He emphasized that Indonesia is a huge potential market, and the government at this time focuses on infrastructure development.
