The Indonesian Defence Ministry will buy four used airplanes Hercules C-130 from Australia , following a 63 million USD contract inked on July 20.
The contract was signed between the ministry and the Royal Australian Air Force’s Qantas Defence Services.
Speaking at a press conference after the signing ceremony, Indonesian Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said that the first airplane is ready to be handed over, while the remaining will be delivered between October 2013 and May 2014.
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty expressed hope that the two countries’ bilateral relations will continue further developing in all fields, including defence.
He said the two sides are also discussing about Indonesia ’s purchase of five Hercules C138 airplanes from Australia .
Australia is willing to help train Indonesian pilots in flying these planes, he added.-VNA
