Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Navy on June 15 convened the 5th International Maritime Security Symposium (IMSS) in Makassar, South Suluwesi, discussing common concerns related to maritime security.

The IMSS coincided with the navy’s 4th Multilateral Naval Exercise KOMODO (MNEK) held in the Suluwesi Straits, with participants updated on related G20 Summit outcomes, climate change, the security of SLOCs (sea lines of communication) and good order at sea, and humanitarian disaster relief assistance.

Indonesia’s UN ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani said it was critical for navies to support their nations’ blue economy.

The diplomat noted that Indonesia’s defence partners have always responded in a timely manner with necessary assistance for the country’s post disaster response, recovery and rehabilitation phases./.
