Hanoi (VNA) - Indonesia on July 3 imposed a partial lockdown in Jakarta, across the main island of Java and on Bali as the Southeast Asian nation grapples with an unprecedented wave of coronavirus infections.

Mosques, restaurants and shopping malls were closed in virus hotspots around the Muslim-majority country.

However, often jammed public transport is still allowed to continue operating at a reduced capacity, while domestic sea, air and bus travel will be available for people who have received at least one vaccine dose.

The new measures, announced by Indonesian President Joko Widodo, will last until July 20 in a hope of bringing daily infections to below 10,000.

Earlier on July 2, Indonesia posted record new infections and deaths related to the disease, bringing the totals to nearly 2.2 million and 59,534, respectively./.
