Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s State-owned electricity company (PLN) is planning to increase electricity supply to meet power demand during the 2018 Asian Games (ASIAD).
PLN General Manager Ikhsan Asaad said one of the efforts is to raise capacity of the substation in Senayan in South Jakarta to the target of 8,000 kV. The substation will become one of main sources of power supply to several venues of ASIAD 18 at the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in Jakarta capital city and related activities of the event.
To date, the progress in the development of electricity infrastructure to serve ASIAD 18 has reached 90 percent. The PLN has allocated 71 billion IDR (5.5 million USD) to enhance electricity supply and eight generators with capacity of 1,250 kVA are ready to use.
ASIAD 18 will be held in Indonesia’s two cities of Jakarta and Palembang in South Sumatra from August 18 to September 2. Head of the Asiad 2018 organising board Linda Wahyudi said that the construction of infrastructure for the event have been completed in late 2017.
The renovation of the Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta has reached nearly 90 percent of completion. Meanwhile, in Palembang, the work to upgrade and develop venues has been on track, with the building of Jakabaring sport city and other facilities reaching 92 percent.
Test events of ASIAD 18 will be carried out on February 10 and 18 for archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, martial arts, taekwondo, volleyball and weightlifting.-VNA
