Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on May 20 approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Moeldoko as the new Army Chief of Staff, replacing his predecessor Pramono Edhie Wibowo whose term will expire later this month.
Speaking at the appointment ceremony to Moeldoko who used to serve as outgoing Pramono’s deputy, President Yudhoyono stressed the need to beef up efforts in building and consolidating professionalism of the armed forces, especially their competence and weapon system modernisation to meet requirements of the country and its people in protecting territorial independence, sovereignty and integrity.
The president also asked the newly-appointed chief to pay more attention to the improvement of living condition and happiness of servicemen’s families, establish a closer ties between the army and the people.-VNA
