Indonesia needs agricultural development model

Indonesia ’s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has stressed that the country needs to have an agricultural development model to respond to the global economic changes.
Indonesia’s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has stressed thatthe country needs to have an agricultural development model to respondto the global economic changes.

Speaking at aceremony to mark the founding anniversary of the Bogor AgriculturalInstitute (IPB) on December 20, the President said the need for suchagricultural model becomes urgent in the context that the country hasadopted a decentralisation system with a high economic growth.

Yudhoyono gave out three options for the agricultural developmentmodel. The first one provides many opportunities for the market economyto decide development direction, while the second emphasises theparticipation of the Government in development. And the third model is acombination of the two above-mentioned models.

Indonesia should choose the third model but avoid the excessive intervention from the Government, he noted.-VNA
