Indonesia records lowest number of COVID-19 daily cases in four months

Indonesia logged 2,577 new cases of COVID-19 on September 13, the lowest figure since mid-May, pushing its total caseload to 4,170,088.

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia logged 2,577 newcases of COVID-19 on September 13, the lowest figure since mid-May, pushing itstotal caseload to 4,170,088.

On the day, its death toll increased by 276 to 139,165. The risewas also the lowest since June 17.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 patients being treated inhospitals or self-isolating at home decreased by 10,173 to 99,696, the lowestlevel since May 27.

The rate of positive results from COVID-19 testing also droppedto a record level of 1.45 percent, far beyond the World Health Organisation’srecommendation level of 5 percent.

According to official statistics, the COVID-19 epidemic inIndonesia tends to decrease gradually from the beginning of August.On September 10, President Joko Widodo announced that the country will achievethe goal of vaccinating more than 70 percent of the population by the end ofthis year.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi predicted 1.9 million COVID-19 cases for 2022in a better scenario. If there is a spike in COVID-19 cases due tothe spread of a new variant, the number of yearly estimated cases will be up to 3.9million cases./.
