Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia proposed three approaches for dealing with child victims of terrorism at the 33rd session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) recently held in Vienna.
The information was unveiled by head of Indonesia’s National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Commissioner General Rycko Amelza Dahniel in an official statement released by his office on May 15.
The three approaches consist of preventing children from falling victim to terrorist groups' acts of violence, carrying out rehabilitation and reintegration of children associated with terrorist groups, and ensuring justice for children through a rights-based approach, he said.
According to him, fulfilling children's rights is one of the main principles of the National Action Plan for Preventing and Combating Violent Extremism (RAN PE) in Indonesia.
In this regard, since 2021, the Indonesian government has collaborated with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to implement the STRIVE Juvenile project funded by the European Union.
The CCPCJ is the UN's main policy-making body for crime prevention and criminal justice with a mandate to improve international measures to combat national and transnational crimes, as well as increase the efficiency and fairness of the criminal justice administration system.
Indonesia was elected as a member of the CCPCJ for the 2024–2026 period in elections held in April 2023 in New York./.
