The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism plans to welcome about 10.06 million foreign visitors in 2015, a 7 percent increase from last year.
The Indonesian government has allocated an additional 2.2 trillion rupiahs (176 million USD) to its tourism and innovative economic sector, 75 percent of which will be spent on tourism promotion in foreign countries, with a focus on Singapore, Malaysia, China and Australia.
Earlier, Head of the Indonesian Tourism Promotion Board (BPPI) Wiryanti Sukamdani said the tourism industry has set its sights on attracting 20 million foreign vacationers in 2019, buoyed by breakthroughs in its policies, such as removing visa application procedures for tourists from Australia, China, the Republic of Korea and Russia.
According to the National Statistics Office (BPS), 8.52 million foreigners visited Indonesia from January to November 2014, up 7.29 percent year-on-year from the previous record of 7.94 million.
The 2014 Economic Efficiency Report of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) said Indonesia’s tourism sector experienced the most significant growth among the G20 economies.-VNA
