
Speaking at a press conference after his meeting with PM Gusmao at the Bogor Presidential Palace on January 26, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said the two sides had discussed several matters, including the agreement to encourage the settlement of border negotiations.
The host welcomed the reactivation of the joint committee for the management of the land borders of Indonesia and Timor-Leste, including cross-border posts.
Meanwhile, PM Gusmao welcomed the work that has been carried out by the negotiation team to complete the land boundary negotiations.
He said he believed that the two sides will find a solution to this problem, thus strengthening the sovereignty of the two countries.
In addition to border-related issues, the two leaders also agreed to strengthen economic cooperation.
President Widodo welcomed the commitment of the Timor Leste government to create a better investment environment through the investment protection agreement.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on information technology cooperation. They encouraged the cooperation in telecommunications infrastructure, including the fiber optic investment plan.
Regarding regional cooperation, Indonesia is committed to supporting the full membership of Timor-Leste in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)./.
