Indonesia expects to ship abroad 200,000 cars by the end of 2014, according to Industry Minister Hidayat.
The country exported a batch of 1,000 Toyota Vios cars to nine nations in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
The competitiveness of automobile products from Indonesia has increasingly improved, Hidayat said.
The number of Indonesian completely built-up (CBU) cars continues to be on the rise, climbing from 125,000 in 2012 to 170,000 in 2013.
Exports of completely knocked down (CKD) cars rose to 105,000 last year from 100,000 in 2012, and are expected to reach 110,000 later this year.
Hidayat said the Indonesian Government will continue bettering its policies to persuade foreign automobile manufactures to increase their investment in the field.
A recent investment plan initiated by Japan’s Toyota Motor Corporation has also been welcomed in order to make Indonesia one of the group’s car manufacturing hubs.
Last year, the PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia shipped 118,000 cars abroad, making up nearly 70 percent of the country’s total car exports.-VNA
