The Indonesian National Army (TNI) plans to establish a special counter-terrorism squad, which will consist of three elite units of the national navy, army, and air forces, to assist the country’s National Police in combating terrorism.
According to Commander Agus Sutomo from Indonesia ’s Special Force Command (Kopassus), the squad will not supersede the National Police's Special Counter-Terrorism Detachment 88.
The initiative of the establishment was proposed several years ago by Agus’s predecessor Lieutenant General Lodewijk Paulus.
The squad’s units will have to undergo a series of tests of the government and Parliament before its establishment is approved officially by the Parliament.-VNA
