Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on January 24 said that Nusantara Airport in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, is targeting to be completed and can be tested in July 2024.
According to the minister, the airport construction has been accelerated by adding equipment, working time, and land-related settlement.
IKN Airport will support services and connections of the IKN capital in the future. The airport, which is 23 km from the 0 point of IKN and 120 km from Balikpapan, has a terminal area of 7,350 sqm and an airport area of 347 ha. This airport's runway is 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide, which can accommodate large-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777-3000ER and Airbus A380 types.
The minister will also survey the construction site of the autonomous train which will be located in the west and east axes of IKN and scheduled to start partial operation in August.
The train has two carriages with a capacity of 324 passengers each and will be built in two phases. Its speed will be 40 km per hour and can reach to a maximum speed of 70 km per hour./.
