Indonesia, US discuss defence modernisation

Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia's Minister of Defense and President-elect Prabowo Subianto and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin recently discussed the modernisation of the primary weaponry defense system, on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 that took place in Singapore from May 31 to June 2.

During the meeting, Prabowo extended his appreciation to the US for supporting the modernisation of equipment utilised by the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), stating that both nations acknowledge the importance of the bilateral cooperation in modernising defence equipment and systems in order to enhance the capability of effectively handling threats.

The two also explored viable ways to bolster their countries’ long-term partnership and pursue common interests.

Shangri-La Dialogue is Asia’s leading defence summit where defence ministers debate the region’s most pressing security challenges, engage in important bilateral talks and come up with fresh approaches together.

This year event drew the participation of some 550 delegates from 40 countries./.
