Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian agriculture ministry has halted shipments of poultry and poultry-related products from Malaysia after a case of bird flu was reported in the neighbouring nation.
The move aims to prevent the bird flu virus from entering Indonesia, Banun Harpini, the head of the Indonesian agriculture quarantine agency, said.
All quarantine officials have been instructed to issue extreme caution on this matter, she added.
According to the agency, based on the country’s animal and plant quarantine law, the agency has rejected the entry of poultry since August 9.
Poultry meat produced on or before July 27 are still allowed to come into Indonesia with the stipulation of its production date and health certificate, the agency noted.
Poultry or poultry-related products imported from July 27 to August 8 will be destroyed if any indication of the bird flu virus is found on them. –VNA
