Indonesian airports receive awards from int’l airport rating agency

The Sepinggan airport of Balikpapan in Indonesia’s East Kalimantan island has been named the second best in service in the world for those with annual handling capacity of 5 million to 15 million passengers.

Jakarta (VNA) – The Sepinggan airport of Balikpapan in Indonesia’s East Kalimantan island has been named the second best in service in the world for those with annual handling capacity of 5 million to 15 million passengers. 

The airport received the token of appreciation Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards in a global summit which was recently held by the Airports Council International - the Montreal, Canada-based airport rating agency.

The summit was participated in by 127 airport authorities and operators all over the world in Halifax, Canada.

Other Indonesian airports receiving the awards include I Gusti Ngurah Rai international airport of Denpasar, Bali, and Surabaya's Djuanda airport - all with handling capacity of 15 million to 25 million passengers and under the state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I.

Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Sepinggan Farid Indra Nugraha said currently Sepinggan airport has an annual handling capacity of 10 million passengers and the port management is committed to continuing to seek improvement in the airport service.
The airport was built by the BBM oil company of the Dutch colonial administration in 1925.

The best in that category is the Mumbay airport of Hyderabad, India.-VNA
