Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia’sMinistry of Defense has signed 22 contracts with local companies to procureequipment for strategic defense weaponry (alutsista) military construction thattotally costs 2.1 trillion Rp (1.4 billion USD), Indonesia's Antara news agencyreported.
Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu witnessed thesigning of the contracts, including 18 alutsista contracts with PT Pindad’scomplex in Bandung, West Java, along with other contracts contractsrelated to construction.
Besides, contracts on the construction ofsubmarines with PT PAL, Daewoo Shipbuilding, and Marine Engineering Co. Ltdwere also inked on this occasion.
Other contracts include the procurement ofinfantry fighting vehicles, jatri infantry, small caliber munitions (MKK) (PTPindad); and nuclear, biology, and chemical special vehicles, explosive tamingvehicles, and decon trucks (PT Merpati Wahana Raya).
The contracts for the construction worth 106billion Rp include the continued development and construction of a navyhospital, marines facilities and infrastructure building.
The signing reflects the government’s commitmentto procuring defense systems that are more transparent and accountable, theminister said.
He is hoping that the defense industry cancontinue to innovate and become an independent and competitive industry that isrecognised by the world.
Hopefully, the defense industry can fulfil thealutsista needs in the future, he said.-VNA
