Indonesian journalist hails top legislator’s policy remarks

Jakarta (VNA) - Veeramalla Anjaiah, a former senior editor of Jakarta Post, has applauded Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue’s remarks at arecent policy dialogue in Jakarta, saying it was an excellent speech depicting long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia.

The dialogue, themed “The Vietnam - Indonesia Steadfast Strategic Partnership: Striving for A Dynamic and Inclusive Asia and Pacific Region of Peace, Cooperation, and Development”, was held by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) on August 5.

"Thehall was full of people, which clearly showed the interest among Indonesians inthe rising dynamic Vietnam," he told a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Jakarta.

The seasoned Indonesian journalist said he appreciates Hue’s message emphasising Vietnam'scommitment to peace, harmony and friendship as well as aims to maintain itsindependence, self-reliance, multilateralisation, and diversification offoreign policies, acting as a reliable friend and partner of Indonesia.

"Vietnam upholds multilateralism and fully supports peaceful settlement ofdisputes based on international rules," he said.

Anjaiah, who is also a seniorresearch fellow at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS), agreed with thetop legislator’s assessment that the bilateral strategic partnership is beingdeveloped comprehensively in both breadth and depth, actively contributing to adynamic, inclusive and sustainable regional architecture.

According to the expert, bothVietnam and Indonesia want to elevate their present strategic partnership to a comprehensivestrategic partnership. They also want to build a dynamic, inclusive, peaceful,cooperative and sustainable Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.

He affirmed that the NAChairman was absolutely right in highlighting the placing of the people at thecenter. "People should be the goal anddriving force of the community building process and become the realbeneficiaries of all decisions," he said.

In conclusion, Anjaiah saidfor the sake of future generations, all countries should join hands in buildinga regional cooperation structure of inclusion and stability with connectivityin politics, security, economy, trade, culture, society and people-to-peopleexchange, while upholding the UN Charter and international law./.
