Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo hosted a reception in Jakarta on June 25 for Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister Taro Kono.

President Widodo thanked Japan for its support towards Indonesia’s candidacy for a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2019-2020 tenure.

He said that after the meeting, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and Kono would hold a thorough discussion on the bilateral relationship.

The President also expressed his hope that the two countries will enhance cooperation in the coming time.

Kono is on a visit to Indonesia from June 24-26 to commemorate the 60th founding anniversary of Japan-Indonesia diplomatic relations.

This is the first visit to Indonesia by Kono since he took office as Minister of Foreign Affairs in August 2017.

In addition to meetings with President Widodo and Minister Marsudi, Minister Kono is scheduled to have working sessions with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and ASEAN Secretary-General Lim Jock Hoi.-VNA
