Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo has said he will register as a candidate in the 2019 presidential election on August 10, the last day for registration, according to the news website BeritaSatu.com.
He and his vice president candidate will register to the election commission in the morning, he announced on August 9. He did not mention the name of his running mate.
Indonesia will hold general election in April next year, with candidates for president and vice president having until August 10 to register their nominations.
Joko Widodo, 57, won the national poll in July 2014 with 53.15 percent of votes. He was a businessman before becoming mayor of Surakarta, a city in Central Java. He won the gubernatorial election in 2012 to serve as Governor of Jakarta before running in the presidential race four years ago.–VNA
