Information ministry requests enhanced information security

The Ministry of Information and Communications requested offices, organisations and businesses promptly take measures to ensure their information security following cyber-attacks at airports.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Information and Communications on July 30 requested offices, organisations and businesses nationwide promptly take measures to ensure their information security following hackers’ attacks at Vietnam’s airports.

It asked offices, organisations and enterprises to screen their compliance to information security regulations under their management and intensify works to ensure security for the information they provide.

It also asked IT teams of these offices, organisations and enterprises to proactively take technical measures guided by the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) and promptly report back arising problems.

On the day, the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) also sent a request to IT teams at ministries, sectors and information and communications departments to urgently deploy preventive measures as well as response plans to prevent possible attacks from hackers.

On July 29, the computer systems at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City and Noi Bai airport in Hanoi were hacked at 1:46pm and 4:07pm on July 29.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said the attacks affected more than 100 flights, dozens of them were delayed for between 15 minutes and over one hour.-VNA
