Delegations from the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) ended their second round of negotiation over the last month on developing their joint industrial complex in Kaesong without reaching any positive results.
According to the RoK Ministry of Unification’s press release, the RoK proposed discussions on transportation, communications and the customs system within the industrial park, as well as the assurance of accommodation for workers.
However, the DPRK wants wage issues for its 42,000 workers at 100 RoK businesses in the industrial zone to be discussed first.
The two delegations have yet to fix a date for the next meetings, but agreed that transportation, communications and customs will be mentioned in the next military negotiations.
Additionally, discussions relating to accommodation and wage increases for workers will take place at future inter-governmental meetings.
At previous meeting on Jan. 19-21, the two sides did not reach agreement on the main items on the agenda./.
