International music fest reaches to the stars

Leading Vietnamese and foreign performers will gather at the Monsoon Music Festival, the first-ever "Made in Vietnam" international music festival to be held next month.

"My job has brought me to severalfamous music festivals in the world. Whenever I joined a musicfestival, I always hoped to produce a similar event in Vietnam," saidnoted composer Quoc Trung, the event's general director. "After years ofpreparation, my team and I are very happy to announce that thelong-awaited event is finally happening."

The name "Monsoon" refers to the big changes going on in the Vietnamese music scene, he explained.

"Thefestival's goal is to bring new music and a festive atmosphere toHanoi, in addition to building the professional music industry inVietnam," he said.

Scheduled to take place at the Thang LongRoyal Citadel from October 2-4, the three-day event kicks off with acontemporary music performance by famous international artists.

Theyinclude French-Vietnamese jazz composer and musician Nguyen Le, Danishkeyboardist Martin Hedin and Moroccan percussionist Rhani Krija, who hasperformed with Sting and Prince.

The opening night will also feature electro rock band Carpark North and duo Lulu Rouge, both well-known in Denmark.

"Theperformance will help to strengthen the friendship between Vietnam andDenmark. It will also present a message about environment protection andclimate change prevention, in which Denmark is providing majorassistance," Trung said.

Vietnamese diva Ha Tran, who iscurrently living in the US, will return to Hanoi for the festival, whereshe will perform songs recorded as part of her latest music project BanNguyen (Origin). The project is a collaboration with songwriters DoMinh Nghia, known as Dominik, and Hoang Quan, whose music she describedas "a natural mixture of Vietnam's Mong ethnic tunes and Americanblues."

Diva Thanh Lam, rock bands KOP and Ngu Cung(Pentatonic), girlband Nam Dong Ke (The Stave), female rappers Kimmeseand Suboi and electro DJ SlimV will also perform in addition to artistsfrom the UK, France, Belgium, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

About 10,000 people are expected to attend the event, where music will be played non-stop from 4-11pm.-VNA

The relics will be open for public worship and veneration at Hanoi-based Quan Su Pagoda from 6 am to 9 pm from May 14-16. They will then be transferred to Tam Chuc Pagoda in the northern province of Ha Nam from May 17-21, before being returned to India.

Golf tournament marks 50 years of Vietnam–Germany ties
