International Silk Festival held in Thailand

Thailand’s northeastern province of Khon Kaen is hosting the International Silk Festival, which aims to promote the weaving of silk fabrics and revive its the Pook Xiao tradition.
Thailand’s northeastern province of Khon Kaen is hosting theInternational Silk Festival, which aims to promote the weaving of silkfabrics and revive its the Pook Xiao tradition.

The eventshowcases international silk products and those from Thai provincesincluding Roi Et, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, and Khon Kaen.

Visitors will have a chance to learn about the history of sericulture,silk weaving, handicrafts, and the unique silk cultures of Vietnam ,Laos , China , Myanmar , Cambodia , and Thailand , all of whichare taking part in this event.

According toDepartment of Sericulture Director-General Anan Suwannarat, theInternational Silk Festival will help boost the local economy and bringextra income to Thai silk farmers.

The festival,running through December 10, also features seminars focusing onimprovement of Thai silk and its readiness for the advent of the ASEANCommunity.-VNA
