It was forecast that the ancient capital of Thonburi in Bangkok will be inundated in the coming days.

In addition to causing great losses for auto, electronics and agricultural industries, the floodwater also flew into the Grand Palace, the famous pagoda Wat Traimit which is housing a golden Buddha statute weighing 5.5 tonnes, the Vietnamese food market Talat Noi and Vietnamese pagoda Wat Uphairat Bamrung.

The Pentagon said that the US’s guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin will stay at Laem Chabang port for another six days to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, officials of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Oct. 28 announced to provide 20,000 insecticide-treated mosquito nets for temporary shelters and other areas in flood-hit Thailand in a bid to protect people from dengue fever and other mosquito-borne diseases.
