Int'l youth cultural festival takes places in Cambodia

Cambodia hosted the first International Youth Cultural Festival on April 15 with the aim to enhance cultural exchange among youth in ASEAN member nations and those from the group’s dialogue countries.

Themed"Unity and Solidarity, Strength and Cultural Diversity", the event washeld at the Angkor world heritage complex in northwest Cambodia 'sSiem Reap City .

Speaking at the openingceremony, Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Hang ChuonNaron said the festival was a remarkable event to welcome the ASEANEconomic Community, the official formation of which is scheduled forlate this year.

He said the event contributes topromoting people-to-people and youth-to-youth interactions as well asconnections between ASEAN and its dialogue countries, including China ,Japan , the Republic of Korea , Australia , India and Russia .

During the festival, participants showcased theirrespective cultural identities through art performances and culturalobject displays.

The same day, over 2,000 Cambodiansbroke the world record for the largest Madison dance, organised tocelebrate the three-day Cambodian New Year festival Chol Chnam Thmaythat began on April 14.

The Madison, originated inthe United States in the late 1950s, is particularly popular among Khmerpeople’s New Year celebrations and wedding receptions.-VNA

Project on digital transformation in cultural sector approved

By 2030, the project targets the establishment of shared digital platforms across 100% of cultural sectors. All digitised cultural heritage will be standardised under the national data framework and shared in accordance with regulations, while 80% of public digital heritage assets are expected to receive digital identifiers to clarify ownership and management, encouraging organisations and individuals to do the same and support market development.
