A cultural exchange spotlighting Japan’s traditional cuisine and Sumo martial arts took place at the headquarters of the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 23.
The event was co-organised by the Japanese delegation to ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat on the occasion of the grouping’s 46th founding anniversary, and the 40 th anniversary of the ASEAN-Japan friendship and cooperation.
Addressing the event, Ambassador-Head of the Japanese delegation to ASEAN Kimihiro Ishikane stressed that the friendship and cooperation between Japan and ASEAN have been consolidated and developed in a deeper and more practical manner, on the basis of mutual understanding and respect, for common peace, security, stability, development and prosperity.
The ambassador said that the exchange was part of efforts to maintain Japan’s cultural identities as well as strengthen mutual understanding between Japan and ASEAN member countries as the two sides share many similarities in culture.
Participants also had a chance to enjoy Japanese cuisine and learn more about the country’s 1,300 year-old Sumo.-VNA
