The Government of Japan has announced a 20.47 billion JPY (nearly 220 million USD) aid grant to Myanmar in a bid to support the development of the Southeast Asian country, according to news reaching here on March 22.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs was quoted as saying that around 6.6 billion JPY will go towards improving the country’s hydro-electric power plants to reduce power outages.

The weather forecast system will also get an injection of 3.8 billion JPY, helping limit the devastation caused by natural disasters.

Another 5.4 billion JPY will be used to provide humanitarian assistance for ethnic groups.

Last month, the two Governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support Myanmar ’s construction technology and road maintenance through periodic seminars and engineer exchanges.-VNA
