Japan has agreed to provide a loan package of 90 million USD for Cambodia to upgrade its transport infrastructure.
To this effect, an agreement was signed between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Yuji Kumamaru in Phnom Penh on April 30.
Under the deal, the loan will be used to widen a 47- kilometer stretch of the national road No. 5 between Battambang province and Serey Sophorn city. The road links Phnom Penh and Cambodia’s northwestern provinces near the border with Thailand.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Japanese Ambassador expressed his hope that the project will contribute to boosting Cambodia’s socio-economic development.
Japan is now the leading aid provider for Cambodia. Late last month, the former announced a 34 million USD aid for the latter to improve its socio-economic infrastructure.-VNA
