Japan wishes to cement ties with ASEAN: ambassador

At a meeting with ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh in Jakarta on March 11, the Japanese newly-appointed ambassador in ASEAN Koichi Aiboshi further said that his country will continue supporting the bloc in the process of regional integration, towards establishing a common community by 2015.

Minh expressed his hope that Aiboshi, in his tenure, will does his utmost to further promote the two sides’ cooperation.

The host also praised endeavours of Japan in forming the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) to support joint cooperative projects and implement the ASEAN - Japan Friendship and Cooperation Shared Vision .

The same day, Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Murod Askarov paid a courtesy visit to Minh while making his working visit to Indonesia.

During the meeting, the two officials compared notes on regional and international issues of common concerns.

Askarov affirmed that his country wishes to further cooperation with ASEAN member countries in all fields, especially trade, finance and investment.

He also spoke highly of the central role played by ASEAN and the bloc’s efforts in maintaining peace, security, stability and development in the region./.
