Hanoi (VNA) - Fast Retailing Co. of Japan said it is partnering with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to improve working environment for workers in Asian countries, Kyodo News reported.
This is considered part of efforts of companies and organisations to protect interest of labourers in countries where social security systems are underdeveloped.
In its statement on September 4, Fast Retailing, said in the next two years, the firms will provide 1.8 million USD in funding for ILO research on the labour markets and social security systems in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam, countries where Japanese firms have their factories.
Under the partnership, Fast Retailing and ILO will help promote employment insurance in Indonesia, where garment workers are at high risk of losing jobs.
Tadashi Yanai, Chairman and CEO of Fast Retailing said through cooperation with ILO, the firm hopes to expand its impact and find solutions to issues faced by workers in Asia through systemic social protection measures and improved working environment across the region.
According to Yanai, it is important to ensure decent working environment and to protect rights of workers in order to realise sustainable growth in Asia.
Fast Retailing is the operator of Uniqlo casual clothing stores, and also the owner of the famous GU brand.-VNA
